Ever evolving, the condo owners at 1450 High are stepping it up even more this year by pulling up more courtyard flagstone and adding lots of new vege. This year we will have cucumbers; heirloom (thanks Raphael), pear and plum tomatoes; rhubarb; cinnamon, lime and genovesse basil; parsley, sage, chives, rosemary; a lovely mix of various peppers; strawberries; and new this year -- a cold frame!
In the cold frame...
I have been wanting to put in raised vegetable beds since we moved into our home 2.5 years ago. I finally got around to doing it this year. I started everything from seeds. I built the boxes myself. A hail storm at the end of June managed to beat up most of my plants. I wasn't sure anything would make it. The tomatoes looked dead, my eggplants and peppers were dead, I was sure. I couldn't even go out to look at it, it made me so sad. Then little, by little new leaves started appearing. And now almost a month later it's all back and gorgeous. I just harvested some pattypan squashes. Beans, tomatoes and peppers are flowering. The zinnias are popping up in between. It's truly a victory garden to me. But next year I am definitely building hail covers!
