We have a tiny raised bed garden in our townhome backyard. Along with 3 raised garden beds built along the fence perimeter, we also have two Topsy Turvey's hanging from our patio roof. We built the raised garden beds ourselves out of cedar posts and redwood boards. Then, we replied to a Craigslist posting for free garden soil. My husband and my brother in law spent 3 days moving dirt from their house to our house! The nice lady giving away the dirt was kind enough to give me some good advice on my little beginner garden. (She had the most beautiful backyard with lush, gorgeous plants and flowers). In the past our yard has been a forgotten, barren wasteland (nothing would grow back there, not even weeds!). My boys and I have really enjoyed watching our once "dead" backyard spring to life before our very eyes!
This year is my first year gardening in Colorado and I had so much fun picking out which vegetables to grow! I got so excited shopping for seeds and seedlings that I came home with so many packets of seeds and seedlings. My sweet husband just chuckled when I excitedly told him I was going to grow pumpkins! Let's just say, next year I don't believe I will plant any pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli or cauliflower in our tiny garden. Not to say they aren't doing well, but as you can imagine, we just don't have the space for it!
It's been a rollercoaster ride so far and I can't wait until harvest time!
